According to local authorities a suspicious fire ripped through a warehouse for Ted Vernon Specialty Autos on Thursday destroying about $200,ooo worth of classic cars. The owner suspects a disgruntled employee set the blaze.
Ted Vernon Specialty Autos deals primarily in classic cars and their vehicles were featured on the Discovery channel show South Beach Classics in addition to appearing in several commercials and films.
Authorities say the fire started at about 4am. Firefighters arrived and found a significant fire at the warehouse, they were able to contain the blaze and save about $2 million dollars worth of inventory. Unfortunately, about a dozen cars from the 40's and 50's were destroyed due to fire or smoke damage.
Co-owner Robin Vernon says she thinks a former employee that was fired because he provided false identification could have been the arsonist. The owners reported to the Miami-Dade Police Department that they had been receiving threats to "blow up" the place.
